hens at patch’s

Chickens are intelligent and affectionate. It’s a joy to see the chickens at Patch’s free to express themselves, take dust bathes and forage.

At Patch’s all of our residents live happy and comfortable lives. As you can see below the hens are free to roam around and interact with the other animals.

The egg industry is a major contributor to animal agriculture worldwide. Eggs are used in many processed foods and for many are a daily staple. Unfortunately, with this high demand, comes the battery cages. The life of a battery cage hen is approximately 12 months of age, even though they can lay eggs well past that. Many ex battery hens are now call Patch’s home.

“chickens are good mothers long before their eggs hatch. They talk and purr to their eggs and their chicks peep back from inside the eggs. Hens are loving and affectionate toward their chicks and show empathy for them as well for other hens. ”
